J & B | Cannes, France

What springs to mind when one thinks about Cannes is the annual cavalcade of the beau monde, glamorous yachts, red carpets, and tons of champagne at the glittering French Riviera film festival, where armies of impeccably styled celebs and tons of champagne pour. Ever since the 18th century, the sunny shores of Côte d’Azur have been enticing the café society who set their summer rendezvous for Carlton, Martinez and La Croisette, not to mention the most elegant couples who sought out Cannes to say I do and share wow-worthy moments to live on forever. If one takes a further ride, say about half an hour from the center, they’re bound to discover that the French Riviera is not only great at ground level but way above it.

Can I have you for life? asked B, to J, whose French Riviera love affair goes back to her childhood summers. The beautiful couple from the U.S. did not choose to fly solo but brought along their rescue pupper, Kali, who lent the bride and groom a paw and carried their wedding rings (our Frenchie Leïka approves!).

The day before the wedding the bride-to-be and her ladies of honor took a sailing trip around the coast with an unfortunate incident attempting to ruin the big day. J got stung by a jellyfish and spent the rest of the day tending to a swelling that would probably consternate the most resolute. Did that prevent this fearless bride from having the time of her life? Not in the least! In fact, she braved the hitch, and vowed her love to B at the terrace of the elegant Tiara Yaktsa at Théoule-Sur-Mer, overlooking the sparkling sea.

There’s nothing more deliciously French than exploring flavors and petites gourmandises, so following the ceremony the couple spoiled their guests with amuse bouche and cocktails and treats in the form of neroli scented bags and favors of fleur de sel and herbs. Now you can expect the two scientists whose doctorates involved potentially inhabited exoplanets to be a little less romantic, but if you’ve watched your Netflix series you already have a rough idea that there is more to science than erudition. Right after the cake-cutting B took the microphone and sang to his beloved in one of the warmest voices we have heard from a groom. The tune? No other than “Fly Me to the Moon”. Turns out there is spring on Jupiter and Mars after all!
